General mattress information
The Importance of Buying a Quality MattressEnsure your baby has a wonderful night’s sleep with a top–quality mattress from Baby Mattresses Online. Your newborn will spend up to 70% of his or her time sleeping on their mattress, so choosing a quality mattress is an important decision. Even if your baby starts off their first 4 to 6 months in a moses basket or crib, it’s still a wise decision to choose a comfortable, well made baby mattress. A baby's bones are soft, yet they will do some of their fastest growing within the first few years of their life. Even when they reach their toddler years, they will still spend 50% of their time in their beds besides sleeping, such as playing before and after their naps. Quality construction and firm support is required to help their developing spines stay aligned correctly. Should you choose a foam mattress, a spring mattress or a natural fibre mattress?Just like adult mattresses, you have a choice between purchasing a foam, spring or fibre mattresses. Foam MattressesAll our foam mattresses are made of CMHR 25 density foam. Our ever popular foam mattresses are of fantastic quality as they are made from a high density of foam. That doesn't necessarily mean it's thicker, but just that the foam used is of a denser nature. The higher density will provide firm support and should last for the duration that baby is in the cot. Fully spung mattressesThese cot mattresses will last longer than foam because of the steel coils inside them. They are naturally heavier and usually cost a bit more than foam mattresses. The spring interior offers excellent support for newborns & toddlers alike. Coir fibre mattressesThese mattresses proivide comfort, ventilation, spring and safety. Well-ventilated coir core. Coir is renowned for its properties of moisture absorbtion whilst letting the air circulate, keeping the mattress dry and healthy. Also available with wool & springs. When choosing a mattress, be sure it fits snuggly within the cot. All of our mattresses are fire retardant and pass stringent British Standards. Family and friends like to hand their baby furniture down, which is fine, however many second-hand, older mattresses may not be fire retardant. They may also be worn out and won't give the support needed, even though they may look good on the outside. These are probably the best reasons for purchasing a new mattress for your cot, basket or crib. A new mattress is recommended for every new baby. Your baby deserves a wonderful, peaceful night's sleep, and so do you… All our mattresses comply with the rigorous requirements of BS 1877 Part 10 for safety and performance and BS 7177 for flammability.
